Dear ACS Community,

Thank you for prioritizing the education of your children last week.  We know it was a difficult week to obtain fuel to get to school, and we hope the recent arrival of tankers in Arica eases that difficulty.  

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our students this past week at the Cougar Cup here in La Paz or at the Cultural Convention in Santa Cruz.  

This week is the last week of the quarter.  So, our students are busy preparing for final presentations or exams.  In addition, we have two evening events.  We have a silent art auction on Tuesday and the secondary talent show on Thursday.

Finally, the week culminates with conferences for both divisions on Friday.  We hope to see you at one of these events.  Don't forget, next week is spring break.

Estimada Comunidad de ACS:

Gracias por priorizar la educación de sus hijos la semana pasada.  Sabemos que fue una semana difícil conseguir combustible para venir al colegio, y esperamos que la reciente llegada de camiones cisterna a Arica alivie esa dificultad.

Gracias a todos los que asistieron a apoyar a nuestros estudiantes la semana pasada en la Copa Cougar aquí en La Paz o en la Convención Cultural en Santa Cruz.

Esta es la última semana del trimestre.  Por lo tanto, nuestros estudiantes están ocupados preparándose para sus presentaciones finales o exámenes. Además, tenemos dos eventos nocturnos: una subasta silenciosa de arte el martes y el concurso de talentos de secundaria el jueves.

Finalmente, la semana culmina con las conferencias de ambas divisiones el viernes.  Esperamos verlos en alguno de estos eventos.  No se olviden que la próxima semana son las vacaciones de primavera.

 Dear ACS community,

I apologize that this message is a day late.  We had some technical difficulties yesterday.

You should have recently a message from our nominating committee concerning the upcoming board elections and inviting you to nominate yourself.  

Service on the board of trustees is truly a service to our entire ACS community.  At the same time, it is not an easy role.  Trustees must look after the long-term future of the school.  Essentially, they hold the school in trust for future generations of ACS students.  One of the most difficult aspects of being a trustee is keeping this long-term focus.  We are all parents.  So we are all interested in questions like “who is teaching third grade next year”, “what is being taught in the music curriculum”, or “which extracurricular activities will be offered next term”?  While these questions are important, the school employees a large staff of educators with expertise to answer these questions.  The board, however, is the only body that can look after the strategic long-term future of ACS.  If being able to look beyond the day today to the strategic is a skill that you have or characterizes who you are; please do consider nominating yourself for this important role.

I want to also use this as an opportunity to say thank you to our current trustees for their tireless, often unseen, work to ensure the future of ACS.  Thank you Trustees.

Lamento que este mensaje llegue con un día de retraso. Tuvimos algunas dificultades técnicas ayer.

Probablemente habrán recibido ya un mensaje de nuestro comité de nominaciones sobre las próximas elecciones de la Junta Directiva invitándoles a nominarse.

El servicio de la junta directiva es realmente un servicio para toda nuestra comunidad.  Al mismo tiempo, no es una tarea fácil. Los fideicomisarios deben cuidar el futuro a largo plazo del colegio. Básicamente, mantienen el colegio en fideicomiso para las futuras generaciones de estudiantes de ACS.  Uno de los aspectos más difíciles de ser administrador es mantener este enfoque a largo plazo. Todos somos padres. Por lo tanto, a todos nos interesan preguntas como "¿quién enseñará tercer grado el próximo año?", "¿qué se enseñará en el plan de estudios de música?" o "¿qué actividades extracurriculares se ofrecerán el próximo semestre"? Si bien estas preguntas son importantes, el colegio cuenta con un gran personal de educadores con experiencia para responderlas. Sin embargo, la Junta Directiva es el único organismo que puede cuidar el futuro estratégico a largo plazo de ACS.  Si la capacidad de mirar más allá del día a día y ver lo estratégico es una habilidad que usted posee o que lo caracteriza, por favor considere postularse para este importante puesto.

También quiero aprovechar esta oportunidad para agradecer a nuestros actuales fideicomisarios por su incansable, a menudo invisible, trabajo para garantizar el futuro de ACS.  Gracias, fideicomisarios.
