 Dear ACS Community,

I hope you had a restful and joyful Thanksgiving break.  Today marks the start of one of the busiest seasons in the life of ACS.  We have athletic competitions this week, and all the holiday activities are coming up in addition to the normal end-of-semester activities.  

This week's special events will start tomorrow with a pep rally for the whole school at 10:40 AM.  Then the "Calvert Cup" will start on Wednesday and run through Friday.  Overlapping with these games will be the Middle School Friendship Games.  They will start on Thursday and run through Saturday.  Students who are not athletes will attend classes, but teachers may take students to support our teams when possible.  Secondary school students should be advised that the times of classes will stay the same throughout the week, but there will be a special sequence of periods on Thursday and Friday.  On Thursday, the first of December, the Secondary School sequence of periods will be: 1, 8*, 7*, 3, 2**.   On Friday, the second of December the Secondary School sequence of periods will be: 7, 8, 4*, 5*, 6*.   The  Elementary School sequence will not be altered.   Additionally, AP student athletes will have some special instructions from their teachers.  Finally, on Sunday, there will be a special event on campus entitled "cocinado por una causa".  This event is put on by an external organization in support of charity.  

As there are many other events approaching, reviewing a list of some of those events may be helpful.

Week of 5 December

• 5 Dec.—Art show opens in library
• 6 Dec.—Last Parents as partners / Cougar University event
• 7 Dec.—Presentation of MOE award
• 8 Dec.—Holiday Special at 6 PM in the theater
• 9 Dec.—Iconic Moments in Theater and Literature at 6PM in the theater.

Week of 12 December

• Last week for final projects and assessments in the Secondary School

Week of 19 December

• 19 Dec.—Christmas Show (KG3-G1); Special Program for Secondary School
• 20 Dec.—Christmas Show (G2-G5); Special Program for Secondary School
• 21 Dec. —Last day of school; 12:00 dismissal.

Espero que hayan tenido un descanso de Acción de Gracias tranquilo y alegre.  Hoy día marca el inicio de una de las temporadas de mayor actividad en la vida de ACS.  Tenemos competencias atléticas esta semana, y todas las actividades navideñas se aproximan además de las actividades normales de fin de semestre.

Los eventos especiales de esta semana comenzarán mañana con el Pep Rally para todo el colegio a las 10:40 a.m.  Luego, la "Copa Calvert" comenzará el miércoles y se extenderá hasta el viernes. Superpuestos a estos juegos estarán los Juegos de la Amistad de Intermedio.  Comenzarán el jueves y se extenderán hasta el sábado.  Los alumnos que no sean atletas asistirán a clases, pero los profesores pueden llevar a los alumnos a apoyar a nuestros equipos cuando sea posible.  Informamos a los alumnos de secundaria que los horarios de clases serán los mismos durante toda la semana, pero el jueves y el viernes habrá una secuencia especial de los períodos.  El jueves primero de diciembre, la secuencia de los periodos de Secundaria será: 1, 8*, 7*, 3, 2**.  El viernes 2 de diciembre la secuencia de periodos de Secundaria será: 7, 8, 4*, 5*, 6*.  En Primaria no habrá cambios.  Además, los alumnos de AP atletas tendrán algunas instrucciones especiales de sus profesores.  Finalmente, el domingo habrá un evento especial en el campus titulado "Cocinado por un Propósito".  Este evento es organizado por una organización externa para beneficencia.

Como se acercan muchos otros eventos, puede ser útil revisar la lista de algunos de esos eventos.

Semana del 5 de diciembre

• Diciembre 5:  se inaugura la exposición de arte en la biblioteca
• Diciembre 6:  Último evento de Padres como Socios de la Universidad Cougar.
• Diciembre 7:  Presentación del premio MOE
• Diciembre 8:  Especial de Fin de Año a las 6 p. m. en el teatro.
• Diciembre 9:  Momentos icónicos del teatro y la literatura a las 6 p. m. en el teatro.

Semana del 12 de diciembre

• Última semana de trabajos finales y evaluaciones de Secundaria.

Semana del 19 de diciembre

• Diciembre 19:  Show de Navidad (KG3-G1); Programa Especial para    Secundaria.
• Diciembre 20:  Show de Navidad (G2-G5); Programa Especial para      Secundaria
• Diciembre 21: último día de clases; 12:00 salida.

Dear ACS Community,

This week is a short week as there will be no school for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday and Friday.   As a reminder, you can always find the list of important school dates including school holidays on the Cougar Hub.  I'll also attach a link in my message for convenience.  

Tomorrow marks a milestone in the cultural life of our school.  It marks the first time after the pandemic that we will host an event in our theater solely dedicated to the Arts.  This event that will reopen our theater will be performed by our seventh grade students at 6 PM tomorrow, the 22nd of November.  It also starts a series of events that will take us into the holiday season.  

Wednesday will also mark STEAM day in our elementary school.  STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.  We have a special coordinator at ACS who is responsible for bringing together our efforts to integrate these fields.  The special activities on STEAM day are part of that effort.

Today, I would also like to make a bitter-sweet announcement.  After 31 years of service to ACS, Mrs. Maria Inarra has announced that she will be leaving us at the end of this academic year in June.  At the end of next semester, we look forward to celebrating the impact she has had on so many lives over these years, and also celebrating the next chapter in her life with her.  While it is sad to see her go, we know that her work has left an indelible, lasting impact on our school and community.  Maria is also actively involved in guiding our international search for her replacement.

Finally, as the Bolivian fiscal year winds down, I would like to give you a gentle reminder to make sure your account is up-to-date with our cafeteria provider.  If you are like me, your balance may have dipped below zero without knowing it.  They are currently supporting many delinquent accounts and could use all our help in settling them.

Esta es una semana corta ya que el jueves y el viernes no habrá clases por el feriado de Acción de Gracias.  Les recuerdo que en Cougar Hub pueden encontrar la lista de fechas importantes del colegio, incluyendo las vacaciones.  También adjunto este enlace link en mi mensaje, para mayor comodidad.

Mañana marca un hito en la vida cultural de nuestro colegio.  Es la primera vez después de la pandemia que organizaremos un evento en nuestro teatro dedicado exclusivamente a las artes.  Este evento que reabrirá nuestro teatro será realizado por nuestros alumnos de séptimo grado, mañana 22 de noviembre a las 18:00 horas.  También es el inicio de una serie de eventos que nos llevarán a la temporada navideña.

El miércoles también marcará el día STEAM en primaria.  STEAM significa ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería, artes y matemáticas.  Tenemos un coordinador especial en ACS quien es responsable de unir nuestros esfuerzos para integrar estos campos.  Las actividades especiales del día STEAM forman parte de ese esfuerzo.

Hoy, también quiero hacer un anuncio agridulce.  Después de 31 años de servicio en ACS, La señora María Inarra ha anunciado que nos dejará al final de este año académico en junio.  A finales del próximo semestre, esperamos celebrar el impacto que ha tenido en tantas vidas durante estos años, y también celebrar el próximo capítulo de su vida.  Si bien es triste verla partir, sabemos que su trabajo ha dejado un impacto indeleble y duradero en nuestro colegio y comunidad.  María también estará participando activamente en guiar nuestra búsqueda internacional para su reemplazo.

Finalmente, a medida que el año fiscal boliviano termina, me gustaría recordarles amablemente que se aseguren de que su cuenta con nuestro proveedor de cafetería esté actualizada.  Si son como yo, su saldo puede haber caído por debajo de cero sin saberlo.  Actualmente están respaldando muchas cuentas morosas y podrían necesitar toda nuestra ayuda para liquidarlas.

Dear ACS Community,

We have a number of activities that you can be involved in this week.  First, we are pleased to invite you to the second installment of our Parents as Partners / Cougar Parent University Series entitled, "Manage Your Family’s Screen-Time So It Doesn’t Manage You!" with Joy Marchese.  In the first session Joy helped us to see a truth that we parents might not like to hear.  Namely, that we struggle managing our screen time just as much as our children do.  She also gave us some techniques and skills to help our families explore this area together.  Now, we invite everyone to return to this topic tomorrow (Tuesday) in our theater at 10 AM.  You can also join us virtually from wherever you are.  If you come to the theater, we welcome you to stay on after the session for a short conversation with our counselors and technology teachers.  Whether you join virtually, or join us in the school theater; we encourage you to register directly with NESA via the following link:

Finally, on Saturday the 19th of November, we will host a KG3 Open House.  This is an important event during which we showcase our school to our youngest potential students.  It starts at 10 AM.  If you know of anyone with young children who might desire an ACS education for them, please don't hesitate to invite them to our open house.

Tenemos una serie de actividades en las que puede participar esta semana.  En primer lugar, nos complace invitarlos a la segunda presentación de nuestra serie Padres como Socios / Universidad Cougar para Padres titulada “¡Administre el Tiempo de Pantalla de su Familia para que éste no lo controle a usted!” con Joy Marchese.  En la primera sesión, Joy nos ayudó a ver una verdad         que a los padres tal vez no nos gustaría escuchar.  Por ejemplo, que nos cuesta administrar nuestro tiempo frente a la pantalla tanto como a nuestros hijos.  También nos dio algunas técnicas y habilidades para ayudar a nuestras familias a explorar esta área juntos.  Ahora, invitamos a todos a retomar este tema mañana (martes) en nuestro teatro a las 10 am.  También pueden unirse a nosotros virtualmente desde donde se encuentren.  Si vienen al teatro, los invitamos a quedarse después de la sesión para tener una breve conversación con nuestros consejeros y profesores de tecnología.  Ya sea que se una a nosotros virtualmente o en el teatro del colegio, le animamos a inscribirse directamente con NESA a través del siguiente enlace:

Finalmente, el sábado 19 de noviembre tendremos una jornada de puertas abiertas de KG3.  Este es un evento importante durante el cual mostramos nuestro colegio a nuestros alumnos potenciales más jóvenes.  Comenzará a las 10:00 am. Si conocen a alguien con niños pequeños que deseen una educación de ACS para ellos, no duden en invitarlos a nuestra jornada de puertas abiertas.

Dear ACS Community,

This past week, I accompanied our student athletes to the Friendship Games in Cochabamba.  Our teams brought back first place in girls volleyball and second place in girls and boys soccer, as well as boys volleyball.  Our cheerleaders also put on a great performance and cheered on our athletes throughout the event.   These events make memories that will last a lifetime, and I felt privileged to be a part of it.

On a different note, tomorrow we will host the directors of local pre-schools to help promote ACS to our youngest potential students. These steps are exciting because they ensure and shape the long-term future of ACS. Then on Wednesday, we are hosting an HPV vaccination clinic.  Parents of eligible students will have received a note from our school doctor.  Please contact her for additional details.  It is not too late to sign up.

In addition, I'm again pleased to invite a randomly selected group of parents to breakfast on Friday morning.  If not a large enough number of parents accept, we will also send invitations to those who wish to come sooner.  Please indicate your interest in being on this list by completing the linked form. 

Also concerning our long-term future, we have been receiving applications from talented people from all over the world for our Director of Learning and Teaching position.  This position will work alongside our senior leadership team starting next August.  They will help connect our ACS teachers and students to the world and the world to our ACS teachers and students.  We will be inviting interview panelists from all of our stakeholder groups to be a part of the selection process.

La semana pasada, acompañé a nuestros atletas a los Juegos de la Amistad en Cochabamba.  Nuestros equipos trajeron consigo el primer lugar en voleibol femenino y el segundo lugar en fútbol femenino y masculino, así como también en voleibol masculino.  Nuestras porristas también realizaron una gran actuación y animaron a nuestros atletas durante todo el evento.  Estos eventos crean recuerdos que perdurarán toda la vida, y me sentí privilegiado de ser parte de ellos.

En otro tema, mañana recibiremos a los directores de las escuelas preescolares locales para ayudar a promover el ACS a nuestros alumnos potenciales más jóvenes.  Estos pasos son emocionantes porque aseguran y dan forma al futuro a largo plazo de ACS. Luego, el miércoles, estamos organizando una clínica de vacunación contra el VPH. Los padres de los alumnos elegibles habrán recibido una nota de nuestro médico escolar.  Por favor, comuníquese con ella para obtener detalles adicionales.  Todavía hay tiempo para registrarse.

Además, nuevamente me complace invitar a un grupo de padres seleccionados al azar a desayunar el viernes por la mañana.  En caso de que un número suficientemente grande de padres no acepte, también enviaremos invitaciones a aquellos que deseen venir antes.  Por favor, indique su interés de estar en esta lista completando el siguiente formulario form.

Así mismo, en relación a nuestro futuro a largo plazo, hemos estado recibiendo solicitudes de personas talentosas de todo el mundo para nuestro puesto de Director de  Aprendizaje y Enseñanza.  Esta posición trabajará junto con nuestro equipo de Liderazgo Senior a partir de agosto próximo.  Ayudarán a conectar a nuestros profesores y alumnos de ACS con el mundo y el mundo con nuestros profesores y alumnos de ACS.  Invitaremos a entrevistar a panelistas de todos nuestros grupos de partes interesadas para que formen parte del proceso de selección.
