At ACS, we have been improving some of our safety and security procedures. This week we will hold a workshop with all ACS faculty and staff so that all employees have clarity on their roles. As the semester progresses, we will have a series of drills so that students and staff can practice our emergency procedures. We will do our best to make sure that these drills are not stressful for anyone, including our youngest learners, but we wanted you to know to expect a few drills in the coming semester.
This time of the year is hiring season at international schools around the world. Toward the end of this week, ACS will be at an international job fair in the US, looking for exceptionally qualified candidates for our open teaching positions. In addition, we are in the final stages of our search for an Elementary Principal. The search is down to three candidates, and our panel interviews will take place soon.
In addition, some of our middle school students are taking a short field trip to see the Alacitas. This trip represents an opportunity to talk about academic topics such as scaling in mathematics in an authentic way. It should be a lot of fun too.
Finally, some of our secondary students are organizing a collection of dry food stuffs to help: Senda Verde, Helping Hands, Hope Worldwide Bolivia and the ACS Janitors. This drive Ends on March 17. Please see the linked presentation to learn how you can help.

En ACS, hemos estado mejorando algunos de nuestros procedimientos de seguridad y protección. Esta semana realizaremos un taller con todos los docentes y el personal del colegio de manera que todos los empleados tengan claro sobre sus funciones. On Wednesday of this week, our secondary school will host an awards ceremony to celebrate student academic achievement during the first semester. Then on Thursday, we will be hosting a meeting for the Distrital level of the Ministry of Education. We are very happy to partner with the Ministry of Education in this manner to help further their mission in service of the students of Bolivia.
Next week, we will continue our recruitment efforts at an international school recruitment fair in the US. There we will be searching for high-quality foreign teachers. ACS was once a regular participant at this fair, but has been absent for some time. This will be a chance to reestablish those old connections and reopen another recruitment pipeline.
In addition, I would like to share one issue with you regarding parking near the school. We have designated two safe areas for the bus services with which parents contract. These two areas are demarcated by cones and shown in the photographs accompanying my message. Please do not park in these areas, they are needed to provide a safe area for students boarding busses.
Finally, I come to one of the most bittersweet messages that I have ever needed to deliver at ACS. I'm going to ask Mr. Hianny Romero our business manager to join me for this. Over the past one and a half years, Hianny has not only become a trusted colleague to me, but also a friend. When he and I first began working together, we quickly realized that we shared the same goal of getting ACS off a slow downward spiral of financial decay, and onto a new path that would efficiently utilize resources in support of our mission and our students. While we shared this goal, it was Hianny who provided the how. Hianny quickly marshalled his team to begin tackling the most pressing problems and then set us on a path of continual improvement. In addition to his financial acumen, Hianny's deep understanding of Bolivian history and politics has helped show us how we can be a partner and a contributor to the great project that is the Bolivian national experience instead of being washed away by the currents as a relic of history.
This moment of celebrating the incredible accomplishments of Hianny and his team is accompanied by a sad announcement that he will soon discuss. Namely, Hianny will only work with us as business manager for a short time more. He has promised me to keep serving the ACS community in any way that he can. He is willing to continue advising us and to stand for election to the first available board seat. In fact, he is already helping us in the search for his replacement. Before we get to all of that, however, I would like to ask my good friend and trusted colleague to say a few words.
I would like to announce that I will be leaving the business manager position by the end of the month. The reason for my early departure is due to a direct invitation to be the country deputy manager for a significant project that has the potential to have a great social and economic impact in the country. Let me assure that all the efforts are being made to make a seamless transition to the new business manager. To keep the process transparent, we are hiring a company to do the executive search to find the best candidates possible.
My wife and I have decided to keep our children at ACS, and we will still be involved in our community. I just want to thank the talented team that accompanied me during this year and a half where we have started to put the financial and legal operations in compliance with Bolivian regulations and best practices. There are still many things that need to be done, but there is already a strategy and plan that is being executed by our administrative team. Thank you for your support and trust, this is not a goodbye it is a see you later.
Thank you Hianny for your friendship and foremost for your service to ACS. I'm sure neither will end soon.

¡Bienvenidos nuevamente! Espero que hayan tenido un divertido fin de semana largo con sus familias.
El miércoles de esta semana, Secundaria realizará una ceremonia de premiación para celebrar los logros académicos de sus alumnos durante el primer semestre. Luego, el jueves, seremos anfitriones de una reunión para la Distrital del Ministerio de Educación. Estamos muy contentos de asociarnos con el Ministerio de Educación de esta manera para ayudar a promover su misión al servicio de los alumnos de Bolivia.
La próxima semana, continuaremos con nuestros esfuerzos de reclutamiento en una feria internacional de reclutamiento escolar en los Estados Unidos. Allí estaremos buscando profesores extranjeros de alta calidad. ACS fue antes un participante habitual de esta feria, pero ha estado ausente durante algún tiempo. Esta será una oportunidad para restablecer esas viejas conexiones y reabrir otra vía de reclutamiento.
Además, me gustaría compartir con ustedes un problema con respecto al estacionamiento cerca del colegio. Hemos designado dos áreas seguras para los servicios de bus que contratan los padres. Estas dos áreas están delimitadas por conos y se muestran en las fotografías que acompañan mi mensaje. Por favor, no estacione en estas áreas, son necesarias para proporcionar un área segura para los alumnos que abordan los buses.
Finalmente, llego a uno de los mensajes más agridulces que he tenido que dar a ACS. Voy a pedirle al Sr. Hianny Romero, nuestro Gerente Administrativo, que me acompañe en esto. Si bien compartimos este objetivo, fue Hianny quien proporcionó el cómo hacerlo. Hianny rápidamente ordenó a su equipo que comenzara a abordar los problemas más apremiantes y luego nos puso en el camino de la mejora continua. Además de su perspicacia financiera, el profundo conocimiento de Hianny de la historia y la política de Bolivia nos ha ayudado a mostrarnos cómo podemos ser socios y contribuyentes al gran proyecto que es la experiencia nacional boliviana en lugar de ser arrastrados por las corrientes como una reliquia de historia. Este momento de celebración de los increíbles logros de Hianny y su equipo va acompañado de un triste anuncio que pronto nos comentará. Welcome back, and I hope you had a delightful winter break with your families.
This week, many of our students are taking their MAP tests. You may know that MAP stands for measures of academic progress and allows us to see how individual students grow academically throughout their time at ACS. In addition, it allows us to compare their progress to similar students in other parts of the world. This is valuable information that our faculty use to guide the learning of each student.
I would also like to announce some changes. Some are visible and some are not. First, you may soon notice some changes in our security personal. The company that has been providing our campus security is going through some significant internal changes. So, we are investigating alternatives. To keep security high in the meantime, we will temporarily be contracting with police officers to provide security at our campus in the interim. In addition, during the pandemic, we opened our large gates for entry and dismissal to accommodate our biosecurity procedures. Now that our entry procedures are no longer as complex, we can return to the safer option of only opening the small entry doors rather than the large gates.
While these changes will be easy to see, there has been a very large change at ACS that has likely gone unnoticed. Nonetheless, this change will have a long-term impact on ACS and the globe. ACS worked with Innovasol to install 108 solar panels on our roofs with no upfront cost to ACS. Not only will this project save ACS money on the energy we buy, but it will also eliminate 711 tones of carbon dioxide that would otherwise go into the atmosphere over the next 25 years. Finally, I am very pleased to announce that we offered Ann Peterson the ACS director of learning and teaching position, and she recently accepted. Ann brings a wealth of experience in leadership and curriculum from schools around the world to ACS. I look forward to giving you opportunities to get to know her better soon. In addition, we envision a hiring process for our elementary principal position very similar to the one we used with the director of learning and teaching position. We will again have interview panels for the candidates. This time, we would like to invite elementary parents and elementary teachers to participate. Bienvenidos nuevamente, y espero que hayan tenido una encantadora vacación de invierno junto a sus familias.
Esta semana, muchos de nuestros alumnos están tomando sus exámenes MAP. Seguramente ya sabe que MAP significa medidas de progreso académico y nos permite ver cómo los alumnos individualmente van creciendo académicamente a lo largo de su tiempo en ACS. Además, nos permite comparar su progreso con alumnos similares en otras partes del mundo. Esta es información valiosa que nuestra facultad utiliza para guiar el aprendizaje de cada alumno.
También me gustaría anunciar algunos cambios. Algunos son visibles y otros no. Primero, pronto notará algunos cambios en nuestro personal de seguridad. La empresa que ha estado brindando seguridad a nuestro campus está experimentando algunos cambios internos significativos. Por lo tanto, estamos investigando alternativas.
