Dear ACS Calvert Families,
As we settle into the rhythm of March, I wanted to reach out with a few reflections on this unique time in our school calendar. March is often the "long stretch"—a month of steady, focused work without the frequent interruptions of holidays. While it requires stamina, it also offers us a beautiful, golden window of opportunity.
Because we are in the heart of the quarter, this is the perfect moment to pause and check in. I encourage you to reach out to your children’s teachers and have a gentle conversation with your kids about their progress. The beauty of doing this now is that there is plenty of time to redirect. When we address challenges mid-quarter, we can do so with a sense of calm and clarity, rather than the hurried pressure that often accompanies the final days of a grading period. Let’s work together to make this a season of steady growth rather than a frantic finish.
However, as we check in on academics, I invite you to join me in a shift of perspective. While grades tell part of the story, they don't tell the whole story. When your children come home, I encourage you to move beyond the standard, "What did you do in math today?" and instead try questions that reach the heart and the mind:
"Who were you able to help today?"
"What was the most interesting thing you discovered?"
"Did anything surprise you today?"
Focusing on character and curiosity builds a bridge that academics alone cannot. Along those same lines, I want to gently challenge us all—myself included—to look at the quality of our presence. Uninterrupted, tech-free time is perhaps the most impactful gift we can give our children for their emotional and academic growth.
It is a powerful exercise to reflect on how much time our children see us on our own devices. By consciously setting our phones aside and offering our full attention, we model the focus and connection we hope to see in them. These small, quiet moments of "being with" are where the most significant bonds are forged.
Finally, I am thrilled to share that the energy on campus will be palpable from March 12th to 14th, as ACS Calvert hosts the Cultural Convention. We are honored to welcome students and staff from SCCS, CCS, and AISB to our home. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the arts, technology, speech, and debate, and we will be sending out a full schedule of events shortly. I truly hope you can join us to witness the incredible talent and dedication of our High School students.

Estimadas familias de ACS Calvert:
Al aclimatarnos al ritmo de marzo, quería compartir algunas reflexiones sobre este momento único en nuestro calendario escolar. Marzo suele ser el "largo tramo": un mes de trabajo constante y concentrado sin las frecuentes interrupciones de las vacaciones. Si bien requiere resistencia, también nos ofrece una hermosa y brillante ventana de oportunidad.
Como estamos en pleno trimestre, este es el momento perfecto para hacer una pausa y revisar cómo están sus hijos. Los animo a que se comuniquen con los maestros de sus hijos y conversen con ellos sobre su progreso. Lo bueno de hacerlo ahora es que hay mucho tiempo para reorientar. Cuando abordamos los desafíos a mitad del trimestre, podemos hacerlo con calma y claridad, en lugar de la presión apresurada que suele acompañar los últimos días de un período de calificaciones. Trabajemos juntos para que esta sea una temporada de crecimiento constante en lugar de un final frenético.
Sin embargo, mientras revisamos el progreso académico, los invito a unirse a mí en un cambio de perspectiva. Aunque las calificaciones cuentan parte de la historia, no la cuentan toda. Cuando sus hijos lleguen a casa, los animo a ir más allá del típico "¿Qué hicieron hoy en matemáticas?" y, en su lugar, a intentar preguntas que lleguen al corazón y a la mente:
"¿A quién pudieron ayudar hoy?"
"¿Qué fue lo más interesante que descubrieron?"
"¿Les sorprendió algo hoy?"
Centrarse en el carácter y la curiosidad construye un puente que los estudios por sí solos no pueden. En ese mismo sentido, quiero desafiarnos con delicadeza a todos, incluyéndome a mí, a observar la calidad de nuestra presencia. El tiempo ininterrumpido y sin tecnología es quizás el regalo más impactante que podemos darles a nuestros hijos para su crecimiento emocional y académico.
Reflexionar sobre cuánto tiempo nuestros hijos nos ven en nuestros dispositivos es un ejercicio poderoso. Al dejar de lado conscientemente nuestros teléfonos y ofrecerles toda nuestra atención, modelamos la concentración y la conexión que esperamos ver en ellos. Estos pequeños y tranquilos momentos de "estar juntos" son donde se forjan los vínculos más significativos. Finalmente, me complace compartir que la energía en el campus será palpable del 12 al 14 de marzo, cuando ACS Calvert sea la anfitriona de la Convención Cultural. Nos honra dar la bienvenida a los estudiantes y al personal de SCCS, CCS y AISB. Esta es una maravillosa oportunidad para celebrar las artes, la tecnología, la oratoria y el debate, y pronto publicaremos el programa completo de eventos. Espero sinceramente que puedan acompañarnos y presenciar el increíble talento y la dedicación de nuestros estudiantes de preparatoria.
