 Dear ACS Community,

As you probably know, the government recently changed some national holidays designated for the year 2026.  This impacts two days in our 2025-2026 academic calendar.  The changes are summarized below:

• Thursday, January 22, will be a school day, and Friday, January 23, will be a holiday.
• Graduation will still take place on 5 June 2026, although this day will now be a national holiday.  Please note that the last day for students is unaffected and remains 3 June 2026.  

Please take note that the first change is THIS WEEK.  

You may not be aware that last week ACS hosted the initial meeting of the year for Districtal de Education La Paz Dos.  We were able to congratulate the new director of the districtal and learn about the new ministerial regulations.  While ACS is different from many of the other schools in the district we are united by a commitment to provide excellent education to students in La Paz.  

This week, the ACS faculty and staff will gather on Wednesday afternoon for our annual celebration of our maintenance, custodial, and security teams.  We appreciate all the work they do every day, and I am sure you do to.  If you have the opportunity, this is a great week to let them know.

Probablemente ya es de su conocimiento que recientemente el gobierno modificó algunos días festivos nacionales para el año 2026. Esto afecta dos días de nuestro calendario académico 2025-2026. Los cambios se resumen a continuación:

El jueves 22 de enero será día normal de clases y el viernes 23 de enero será feriado.

La graduación tendrá lugar el 5 de junio de 2026, aunque este día será feriado nacional. Les informamos que el último día de clases para los alumnos no se verá afectado y seguirá siendo el 3 de junio de 2026.

 Favor tener en cuenta que el primer cambio es ESTA SEMANA.

Quizás no tengan conocimiento que la semana pasada el ACS organizó la reunión inicial del año del Distrito de Educación La Paz Dos. Tuvimos la oportunidad de felicitar al nuevo director del Distrito y conocer las nuevas regulaciones ministeriales.  Si bien el ACS es diferente a muchos otros colegios del distrito, nos une el compromiso de brindar una educación excelente a los estudiantes de La Paz.

Esta semana, los profesores y todo el personal de ACS se reunirán el miércoles por la tarde para nuestra celebración anual de nuestros equipos de mantenimiento, custodia y seguridad. Agradecemos todo el trabajo que realizan a diario, y estoy seguro de que ustedes también. Si tienen la oportunidad, esta es una excelente semana para hacérselo saber.

 Dear ACS Community,

Today, there are 57 school days left in quarter three.  Quarter three is an ideal quarter for students to concentrate on academic improvement.  We wish all of our students the best in their efforts.  

While it is a great time to focus on academics, there are also other things going on at school.  One of our students, along with the Green Team, has launched the ACS Tapaton.  This project will collect bottle tops from our community to support children with cancer.  Students and community members will find large, sturdy metal hearts around campus in which you can place your tops.  Thank you to the team for organizing this important event.  You can learn more by watching the linked video.

Hoy quedan 57 días de clases para el tercer trimestre. Este es el trimestre ideal para que los alumnos se concentren en su mejora académica. Les deseamos a todos nuestros alumnos lo mejor en sus esfuerzos.

Si bien es un buen momento para concentrarse en sus estudios, también hay otras cosas que hacer en el colegio. Uno de nuestros alumnos, junto con el Green Team, ha lanzado el ACS Tapaton. Este es un proyecto para recolectar tapas de botellas de nuestra comunidad con el objetivo de apoyar a niños con cáncer. Los alumnos y miembros de la comunidad encontrarán corazones metálicos grandes y resistentes por todo el campus donde podrán colocar sus tapas. Gracias al equipo por organizar este importante evento.  Dear ACS Community,

Welcome back to the first student day of the second semester.  We hope you had a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year with family and friends.  After all of the activities at the end of the year, January is a great time for students and teachers alike to refocus on academics and start the new year out strong.  

Yesterday our faculty and staff gathered to prepare for the semester.  Teachers reflected on their own teaching in semester one using an externally validated framework.  They also worked together to synthesize our accreditation work and draft initial versions of: a profile of graduates, a shared understanding of high-quality learning, and an approachs to learning feedback tool.  They also conducted a review of our child protection system.  In addition, they worked in their departments and their communities of practice. This type of work develops the collective efficacy of our staff and has been shown to be the single biggest factor in improving outcomes for students.  This is why days like yesterday are so important for our school.

Bienvenidos al primer día de alumnos del segundo semestre.  Esperamos que hayan tenido unas felices fiestas y un Feliz Año Nuevo con la familia y los amigos.  Después de todas las actividades de fin de año, enero es un momento ideal para que tanto alumnos como profesores se reorienten hacia lo académico y comiencen el nuevo año con fuerza.

Ayer, nuestros profesores y personal se reunieron para preparar el semestre. Los profesores reflexionaron sobre su propia enseñanza durante el primer semestre utilizando un marco validado externamente. También trabajaron juntos para sintetizar nuestro trabajo de acreditación y redactar las versiones iniciales de: un perfil de graduados, una comprensión compartida del aprendizaje de alta calidad y una herramienta de retroalimentación sobre enfoques del aprendizaje.  También realizaron una revisión de nuestro sistema de protección infantil. Además, trabajaron en sus departamentos y comunidades de práctica. Este tipo de trabajo desarrolla la eficacia colectiva de nuestro personal y ha demostrado ser el factor más importante para mejorar los resultados de los alumnos. Por este motivo, días como el de ayer son tan importantes para nuestro colegio.
