Dear ACS Community,
Thank you to everyone who helped plan Friday's activities celebrating both International Day and Earth Day. It was a special opportunity for our community to reflect upon our place in the world community and our efforts to care for the globe itself, our common home.
This week is a full week at ACS. We have the general assembly and board elections on Wednesday. Then on Thursday and Friday we will have field days for KG3 & KG4 followed by KG5 to grade 5. In addition, the secondary art show will start on Wednesday and run through noon on Friday. The week will end with the secondary talent show on Friday evening.
As we will be electing new board members this week, it is an appropriate time for me to say thank you to our 2022-2023 Board of Trustees. We often shorten this group's name to the “board”. The fact is that there are many types of boards. There are boards of governors, boards of managers, and boards of directors. A Board of Trustees, however, is unique in name and spirit. They hold the school in trust for the community of the future. This work takes true selfless commitment. Some of our current board members will not even be with us next year. Few will even see the work that they started come to fruition, let alone benefit from it. I feel honored and humbled to have had the opportunity to work with a group so committed to selfless service, as was our 2022-2023 board of Trustees. In some weeks, many of them put time in that seemed much closer to that required of a full-time job than that expected from a volunteer position. Long into the future, the ACS community will continue to benefit from their work. I thank them all and am confident that they have set a pattern of service that will inspire the 2023-2024 board and those that follow.

Gracias a todos los que ayudaron a planificar las actividades del viernes para celebrar tanto el Día Internacional como el Día de la Tierra. Fue una oportunidad especial para que nuestra comunidad reflexione sobre nuestro lugar en la comunidad mundial y nuestros esfuerzos por cuidar el planeta mismo, nuestro hogar común.
Esta semana es una semana completa en ACS. Tenemos la asamblea general y las elecciones de la Directiva el miércoles. Luego, el jueves y el viernes tendremos días de campo para los grados de KG3 y KG4, seguidos de KG5 a grado 5. Además, la exhibición de arte de secundaria comenzará el miércoles y se extenderá hasta el mediodía del viernes. La semana terminará con el show de talentos de secundaria el viernes al atardecer.
Ya que elegiremos nuevos miembros de la Directiva esta semana, es un momento apropiado para dar las gracias a nuestra Junta Directiva 2022-2023. A menudo acortamos el nombre de este grupo a "La Directiva". El caso es que hay muchos tipos de directivas. Hay la Directiva de Gobierno, Directiva de Administración y Directiva de Directores. Sin embargo, una Junta Directiva es única en nombre y espíritu. Mantienen el Colegio en fideicomiso para la comunidad del futuro. Este trabajo requiere de un verdadero compromiso desinteresado. Algunos de nuestros miembros actuales de la Directiva ni siquiera estarán con nosotros el próximo año. Pocos incluso verán que el trabajo que comenzaron llega a buen término, y mucho menos se beneficiarán de él. Me siento honrado de haber tenido la oportunidad de trabajar con un grupo tan comprometido con el servicio desinteresado, como lo fue nuestra Junta Directiva de 2022-2023. En algunas semanas, muchos de ellos dedicaron un tiempo que parecía mucho más cercano al que se requiere de un trabajo de tiempo completo que al que se espera de un puesto de voluntario. En el futuro, la comunidad de ACS continuará beneficiándose de su trabajo. Les agradezco a todos y confío en que han establecido un patrón de servicio que inspirará a la Junta Directiva de 2023-2024 y a las siguientes.
