Dear ACS Community,
This past week and weekend, I was able to accompany our middle school athletes and scholars to the Friendship Games in Cochabamba. While we won some games and lost others, I was very proud of how our students conducted themselves and played the games. This was even recognized by the hosts when they awarded ACS the Certificate of Sportsmanship. I can think of several examples that particularly impressed me. At one point, it was thought that some of our math bowl team members would not be able to make the contest due to a schedule conflict. A number of our other students stepped up, volunteering to participate if the rest of the team couldn't make it. In the end, they were not needed, but the fact that they volunteered speaks volumes about their commitment and willingness to persevere despite obstacles. In another instance, an injured player who could no longer compete in her normal sport, joined the cheerleading squad supporting our other teams. Even our ACS parents, blew up balloons to provide more visible support during the cheerleading competition. These and other instances are what made me especially proud to be a Cougar during the competition.
We have a busy week this week. Today we have our normal board meeting. Then the General Assembly will take place on Wednesday. In addition, our teachers will be participating in an internal professional development conference, and we will host a Kindergarten showcase for new families on Wednesday. Then, Thursday will be Secondary School conferences. Finally, the week will cumulate with the Halloween Carnival on Friday.

La semana pasada y el fin de semana pasados, pude acompañar a nuestros atletas y estudiantes de secundaria a los Juegos de la Amistad en Cochabamba. Si bien ganamos algunos juegos y perdimos otros, me sentí muy orgulloso de cómo se comportaron y jugaron nuestros estudiantes. Así lo reconocieron incluso los anfitriones cuando concedieron a ACS el Certificado de Deportividad. Se me ocurren varios ejemplos que me impresionaron especialmente. Hubo un momento en el que se pensó que algunos de los miembros de nuestro equipo de matemáticas no podrían participar del concurso debido a un conflicto de horarios. Varios de nuestros otros estudiantes dieron un paso al frente y se ofrecieron como voluntarios para participar si el resto del equipo no podría asistir. Al final, no se los necesitó, pero el hecho de que se ofrecieran como voluntarios dice mucho de su compromiso y voluntad de perseverar a pesar de los obstáculos. En otro caso, una jugadora lesionada que ya no podía competir en su deporte habitual se unió al equipo de porristas apoyando a nuestros otros equipos. Incluso nuestros padres de ACS inflaron globos para brindar un apoyo más visible durante la competencia de porristas. Estos y otros casos son los que me hicieron sentir especialmente orgulloso de ser un Cougar durante la competencia.
Esta semana tenemos una semana ocupada. Hoy tenemos nuestra reunión normal de la Directiva. Luego, la Asamblea General tendrá lugar el miércoles. Además, nuestros profesores participarán en una conferencia interna de desarrollo profesional; y el día miércoles organizaremos una exhibición de Jardín de Infancia KG3 y KG4 para nuevas familias. Luego, el jueves serán las conferencias de Secundaria. Finalmente, la semana culminará con el Carnaval de Halloween el viernes.
