 Dear ACS Community, 

I was pleased to see so many secondary parents at our back-to-school night last Thursday.  Despite numerous students, parents and teachers being out due to illness, the event was well attended, and there was a positive spirit around the conversations and the relationships that were built bridging the gap between home and school.

 Next month, across both divisions of the school, we will be focusing on an issue of concern for students, parents, and teachers alike.  To raise the importance of taking a positive stance against bullying, we are calling September #StandUp month.  Already, both our Elementary and Secondary Schools have been laying the groundwork for this special month.  Please be on the lookout for messages from both divisions about this important issue for our community.

This week we have our first board meeting of the year.  We also have secondary awards on Thursday as well as an elementary parent coffee on Friday.

Estimada Comunidad ACS,

Fue muy grato ver a tantos padres de secundaria en nuestra ‘Noche de Regreso a Clases’ el jueves pasado.  A pesar de que numerosos estudiantes, padres y profesores estuvieron ausentes debido a enfermedades, el evento contó con una gran asistencia y hubo un espíritu positivo en torno a las conversaciones y las relaciones que se construyeron para cerrar la brecha entre el hogar y el colegio.

El próximo mes, en ambas divisiones del colegio, nos centraremos en un tema que preocupa tanto a los alumnos, como a los padres y a los profesores.  Para resaltar la importancia de adoptar una postura positiva contra el acoso, llamamos a septiembre el mes del #StandUp.  Tanto en Primaria como en Secundaria, ya han estado sentando las bases para este mes especial.  Por favor estén atentos a los mensajes de ambas divisiones sobre este tema importante para nuestra comunidad.

Esta semana tenemos nuestra primera reunión de la Directiva del año.  También tendremos la premiación de Secundaria el jueves, y el café para padres de primaria el viernes.

 Dear ACS Community,

Thank you for all your support during this great start to the school year.  I was very pleased to see so many parents at the Elementary Back-to-School night last week, and I look forward to seeing secondary parents this week.  

In addition, in our elementary school, our first session of MAP testing will begin next Wednesday.  

If you are not reading this on our new app, I would encourage you to follow the email instructions to download and begin using it.  We look forward to enhancing it throughout the year.

Gracias por todo su apoyo durante este gran inicio del año escolar.  Me alegró mucho ver a tantos padres en la ‘Noche de Regreso a Clases’ de primaria la semana pasada y espero ver a los padres de secundaria esta semana.

Además, en Primaria, nuestra primera sesión de pruebas MAP comenzará el próximo miércoles.

Si no están leyendo esto en nuestra nueva aplicación, les recomiendo que sigan las instrucciones del correo electrónico para descargarla y comenzar a usarla.  Esperamos mejorarla durante todo el año.

Dear ACS Community, 

I am thrilled to report that there is a positive climate pervading the school among both teachers and students. We are truly off to a great start, and we are happy to have you with us.  Before we get too far into the year, I want to celebrate some things that happened over the summer.  First, we are now fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), the same organization that accredits esteemed institutions in the north-eastern US like Harvard University.  NEASC has two paths, their standard path and a challenging path that they call ACE.  I am proud to report that we have been approved to follow the ACE path.  This puts us in the company of some of the best schools in the world and will challenge ACS in every way, especially academically, to be the best we can be.  

In addition, we undertook a number of substantial facilities projects over the summer.  The video link will demonstrate the work we did with the internet, the field, the gym, and the pipes.  As you watch the video, see if you can spot the stairways throughout the school.  It is difficult to believe that they were all at least partially torn up and repaired over the last two years.

Me complace informar que existe un clima positivo que impregna el colegio tanto entre los profesores como entre los estudiantes. Realmente hemos tenido un gran comienzo y estamos felices de tenerlos a ustedes con nosotros.  Antes de que avancemos demasiado en el año, quiero celebrar algunas cosas que sucedieron durante el verano.  En primer lugar, ahora estamos totalmente acreditados por la Asociación de Escuelas y Universidades de Nueva Inglaterra (NEASC), la misma organización que acredita instituciones prestigiosas en el noreste de Estados Unidos, como la Universidad de Harvard.  NEASC tiene dos caminos, uno es el estándar y el otro es el desafiante, al que llaman ACE.  Me enorgullece informar que hemos sido aprobados para seguir el camino de ACE.  Esto nos coloca al lado de algunos de los mejores colegios del mundo y desafiará a ACS en todos los aspectos, especialmente académicamente, para ser lo mejor que podamos ser.

Además, llevamos a cabo una serie de importantes proyectos de instalaciones durante el verano.  El enlace del vídeo demostrará el trabajo que hicimos con el Internet, el campo, el gimnasio y las tuberías.  Mientras van viendo el video, intenten ver las gradas en todo el colegio.  Es difícil creer que éstas fueron, al menos parcialmente, destrozadas y reparadas durante los últimos dos años.

Dear ACS Community,

I am delighted to welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year.  For those of you returning to the school, you will see a lot of changes.  We have now completed the extensive project that saw all major pipes replaced in the school.  We have also completely replaced our internet infrastructure from fiber optic cabling, to stitches, to access points. In addition, we renovated both our soccer field and our gym floor.  If you would like to hear more in person about both physical and academic changes, we have a Returning Family Orientation from 8:30-9:30 AM on Wednesday, and a New Family Orientation from 10:00-11:00 AM on Wednesday.  

In addition, I'm excited to announce a new innovation at ACS.  We have recognized that email has long been replaced as a preferred method of communication for our community, but until now, it has been our main channel for sending information to our community.  Today, I am excited to announce that an ACS App is available in both the Google and Apple stores under the name ACSLP.  It will allow you to get messages from the school directly on your phone as notifications.  We hope that this will be more convenient for our community.  In addition, the app will allow you to directly pay your tuition or other bills from ACS.  While the app will start with these two core functionalities, this is just the beginning.  Throughout the year, we will work to add features that will eventually make the app the center of all your interactions with ACS.  We hope that this mode of communication will better match the way our community lives and works.   You will receive a separate email with instructions about downloading and installing the new app.

Finally, I want you to know that all of our teachers have been at school since the 31st of July, working hard to prepare for the arrival of your children.  We can't wait to see everyone on Thursday, August 8th, the first day of school.

Estoy encantado de darles la bienvenida al año escolar 2024-2025.  Para todos aquellos que regresan al colegio, verán muchos cambios.  Ahora hemos completado el extenso proyecto en el que se reemplazaron todas las tuberías principales del colegio.  También hemos reemplazado completamente nuestra infraestructura de Internet, desde el cableado de fibra óptica hasta los puntos de acceso. Además, renovamos nuestra cancha de fútbol así como el piso de nuestro gimnasio.  Si desean tener mayor información personalmente sobre los cambios físicos y académicos, tenemos una Orientación el miércoles de 8:30 a. m. a 9:30 a. m. para las familias que regresan, y otra orientación para las familias nuevas, el miércoles de 10:00 a. m. a 11:00 a. m.

Además, me complace anunciar una nueva innovación en ACS.  Hemos reconocido que el correo electrónico ha sido reemplazado durante mucho tiempo como método preferido de comunicación para nuestra comunidad, pero hasta ahora ha sido nuestro principal canal para enviar información a nuestra comunidad.  Hoy, estoy feliz de anunciar que una aplicación ACS está disponible en las tiendas de Google y Apple con el nombre de ACSLP.  Le permitirá recibir mensajes del colegio directamente en su teléfono como notificaciones.  Esperamos que esto sea más conveniente para nuestra comunidad.  Es más, la aplicación le permitirá pagar directamente su matrícula u otras facturas de ACS.  Si bien la aplicación comenzará con estas dos funcionalidades principales, esto es sólo el comienzo.  A lo largo del año, trabajaremos para agregar funciones que eventualmente harán que la aplicación sea el centro de todas sus interacciones con ACS.  Esperamos que este modo de comunicación se adapte mejor a la forma en que nuestra comunidad vive y trabaja.   Recibirá un correo electrónico por separado con instrucciones sobre cómo descargar e instalar esta nueva aplicación.

Finalmente, quiero informarles que todos nuestros profesores han estado en el colegio desde el 31 de julio, trabajando duro para preparar la llegada de sus hijos.  Estamos ansiosos por verlos a todos el jueves 8 de agosto, el primer día de clases.
