 Dear ACS Community,

It was a great week and weekend for our Cougars at the Friendship Games.  We had about four hundred athletes and coaches on campus for the combined Middle and High School event.  It is amazing that delegations from the American schools in Bolivia have been competing in these events for almost half a century.  

Every year, at the last Friendship Games of the school year, the four schools plan the schedule for the upcoming year.  Next year, I'm happy to say, that ACS will be hosting the revived cultural convention in March.  

This week is an unusual week at ACS as we have a mid-week holiday on Thursday. Even so, it is a busy week.  On Wednesday, we have the General Assembly and board elections.  Don't forget that we have added an art show and a musical preview to the agenda.  Hopefully, these will enliven the evening.  On Friday during the day we celebrate Earth Day and in the evening our students will perform a musical.  This is the first musical held in our theater since the pandemic, and we encourage our whole community to attend. 

We hope to see you at school this week for some of these events, and have a great week ahead.

Fue una semana y un fin de semana fantásticos para nuestros Cougars en los Juegos de la Amistad. Tuvimos cerca de cuatrocientos atletas y entrenadores en el campus para el evento combinado de High School y Middle School. Es asombroso que delegaciones de colegios Americanos en Bolivia hayan competido en estos eventos durante casi medio siglo.

Cada año, en los últimos Juegos de la Amistad del año escolar, los cuatro colegios planifican el calendario para el año siguiente. El próximo año, me complace anunciar que ACS organizará la renovada convención cultural en marzo.

Esta semana es inusual en ACS, ya que tenemos un feriado el jueves.  Aun así, es una semana muy ocupada. El miércoles, tenemos la Asamblea General y las elecciones de la Directiva. No se olviden que hemos agregado una exhibición de arte y un preestreno musical a la agenda. Esperamos que estos animen la noche. El viernes, durante el día, celebramos el Día de la Tierra y, por la noche, nuestros alumnos presentarán un musical. Este es el primer musical que se presenta en nuestro teatro desde la pandemia, y animamos a toda la comunidad a asistir.

Esperamos verlos en el colegio esta semana para alguno de estos eventos, y que tengan una excelente semana.

 Dear ACS Community,

I trust you had a peaceful break with friends and families.  

We hope our community is well rested because we have a big week ahead at ACS.  This week, we are hosting a combined middle school and high school Friendship Games.  There will be almost four hundred participants involved in the games and activities.  We will begin welcoming teams to La Paz on Tuesday night.  Middle school games will take place from Wednesday to Friday.  High school games will run from Thursday to Saturday.  Over the course of the tournament, 35 individual teams will compete against one another in cheerleading, basketball, as well as track and field.  We are thankful to our athletic director, Elba Beyer, for putting the complex logistics of the event together.  

In addition, I would like to remind the community about the General Assembly.  It will occur on Wednesday of next week and will include the important annual election of new board members.  We hope to see you there.

Espero que hayan tenido un descanso tranquilo con sus familias y amigos.

Esperamos que nuestra comunidad haya descansado bien, ya que nos espera una gran semana en ACS. Esta semana, organizaremos los Juegos de la Amistad, combinando Middle School y High School.  Habrá casi cuatrocientos participantes en los juegos y actividades. Comenzaremos a recibir a los equipos en La Paz el martes por la noche. Los juegos de Middle School se llevarán a cabo de miércoles a viernes. Los de High School se llevarán a cabo de jueves a sábado.  Durante el torneo, 35 equipos individuales de porristas, baloncesto y atletismo competirán entre sí.  Agradecemos a nuestra directora de deportes, Elba Beyer, por organizar la compleja logística del evento.

También me gustaría recordar a la comunidad sobre la Asamblea General, que tendrá lugar el miércoles de la próxima semana e incluirá la importante elección anual de los nuevos miembros de la Junta Directiva. Esperamos verlos allí.

 Dear ACS Community,

Thank you for your patience as the school and community navigates the on-again off-again nature of the road blockages in La Paz.  This week is a short week, as Thursday and Friday are holidays in celebration of Easter.  At the same time, we have a number of activities.  This week we have the conclusion of the High School Cougar Cup as well as a book premier. 

Next week, after the holiday, we will host a combined Middle and High School Friendship games.  Then we will have our General Assembly and board elections at the end of the month on Wednesday the 30th of April.  This year, the General Assembly will be enlivened by a celebration of both visual and performing arts.  We hope to see you there.

Have a great week and an enjoyable break ahead.

Gracias por su paciencia mientras el colegio y la comunidad van navegando por la naturaleza intermitente de los bloqueos de las calles de La Paz. Esta semana es corta, ya que el jueves y el viernes son festivos por la Pascua. Al mismo tiempo, tenemos varias actividades. Esta semana finalizará la Copa Cougar de High School y se presentará el estreno de un libro.

La próxima semana, después del feriado, organizaremos los Juegos de la Amistad tanto de High School como de Middle School. Luego, a finales de mes, el miércoles 30 de abril, tendremos nuestra Asamblea General y las elecciones de la Directiva. Este año, la Asamblea General estará animada por una celebración de artes tanto visuales como escénicas. Esperamos verlos ahí.

 Dear ACS Community,

It is in times like these when uncertainty swirls around the global community that our mission to challenge and inspire responsible global citizens is more important than ever.  Whatever jolts and shocks might occur, it will be up to our students' generation to knit our global community back together again.  Our secondary students practiced the skills they will need to do that this past week.  From Thursday to Saturday, ACS hosted its first Model United Nations. All the participants did a wonderful job, but I was especially proud of our student leaders, as the organization of a MUN is almost entirely student led.  We are proud that from KG3 to twelfth grade, ACS works to develop these leadership skills.  

We also want to extend a special thanks to former President Carlos Mesa and Thomas Lyons from the US Embassy for speaking at the closing ceremony.  A special thanks is also due to the faculty advisor, Mr. Contrearas.  

Exciting activities continue this week with the High School Cougar cup.  We hope to see you there, and have a great week ahead.

Es en momentos como estos, cuando la incertidumbre se cierne sobre la comunidad global, que nuestra misión de desafiar e inspirar a ciudadanos globales responsables es más importante que nunca. Cualquier sacudida o dificultad que pueda ocurrir, será la tarea de la generación de nuestros estudiantes volver a unir a nuestra comunidad global.  Nuestros alumnos de secundaria practicaron las habilidades necesarias para lograr esto la semana pasada.  De jueves a sábado, el ACS organizó su primer Modelo de Naciones Unidas. Todos los participantes hicieron un trabajo maravilloso, pero me sentí especialmente orgulloso de nuestros líderes estudiantiles, ya que la organización de un Modelo de Naciones Unidas (MNU) está casi completamente dirigida por los alumnos. Estamos orgullosos ya que, desde KG3 hasta el duodécimo grado, el ACS trabaja para desarrollar estas habilidades de liderazgo.

También queremos expresar un agradecimiento especial al ex Presidente Carlos Mesa y a Thomas Lyons, de la Embajada Americana, por sus discursos en la ceremonia de clausura. Asimismo, queremos agradecer especialmente al asesor académico, el señor Contreras.

Las actividades emocionantes continuarán esta semana con la Copa Cougar de High School.  Esperamos verlos ahí y que tengan una excelente semana.

 Dear ACS Community,

I hope families and students are rested, rejuvenated, and ready to start the fourth quarter.  The last quarter in the life of any school is a busy one.  Teachers and students will be hard at work finishing course material.  This quarter also holds the most solemn academic rite of the year, graduation. 

Yesterday our teachers engaged in a day of professional development, professional work, and preparation for the busy quarter ahead.  Often, during such busy periods, it is easy for ruptures to develop in our community and in our relationships.  As part of yesterday's sessions, teachers learned techniques to restore and repair community while holding everyone accountable for our relationships with one another.  These skills are critical for our classrooms, but our staff commented on how they can improve all of our relationships.  Our teachers also collaborated on professional growth plans linked directly to continuously improving their work with students. This day came at just the right time to reinvigorate teaching and learning in this the home stretch of the year.

Even though it is a short week, literacy month begins this week, we have elementary field days, and CALMUN starts in the secondary school.

Espero que tanto las familias como los alumnos estén descansados, renovados y listos para comenzar el cuarto trimestre. El último trimestre en la vida de cualquier colegio es muy ajetreado. Profesores y alumnos trabajarán arduamente para terminar el material del curso. Este trimestre también celebra el rito académico más solemne del año: la Graduación.

Ayer, nuestros profesores participaron en una jornada de desarrollo profesional, trabajo profesional y preparación para el ajetreado trimestre que se avecina. A menudo, durante estos períodos tan ocupados, es fácil que surjan rupturas en nuestra comunidad y en nuestras relaciones. Como parte de las sesiones de ayer, los profesores aprendieron técnicas para restaurar y reparar la comunidad, a la vez de que todos somos responsables de nuestras relaciones mutuas.  Estas habilidades son fundamentales para nuestras aulas, pero nuestro personal comentó cómo pueden mejorar todas nuestras relaciones. Nuestros profesores también colaboraron en planes de crecimiento profesional vinculados directamente con la mejora continua de su trabajo con los alumnos. Este día llegó en el momento justo para revitalizar la enseñanza y el aprendizaje en esta recta final del año.

Aunque esta es una semana corta, el mes de la alfabetización inicia esta semana; tenemos el ‘field day’ en primaria; y en Secundaria comienza el CALMUN.

Que tengan una excelente semana y un excelente último trimestre.
