Dear ACS Community,
Last week, I shared with you our efforts to re-energize our goal to make education more student centered. As part of that effort, you will notice a small difference in our survey this week. As always, we value parent input, but we also value feedback from our students. So, you will notice that the survey now asks whether your role in the community is that of a parent or a student. It will be enlightening to learn from, compare, and contrast the feedback from parents and students. In addition, you will notice a new question asking whether education was virtual or on-campus for the week in question. Thank you to both our parents and our students for providing this important feedback. You can find a link to the survey here.
Last week, many ACS teachers participated in the Future of Education Now Virtual Conference. The conference was co-hosted by the Association for the Advancement of International Education and the Western Academy of Beijing. It involved hundreds of participants from all over the globe. A special emphasis of the conference was student involvement in charting the future of education. The timing of this conference matched perfectly our re-emphasis of student-centered education. It was inspiring to watch educators and students working hand-in-hand to improve education around the world.
Tomorrow, I will be starting a series of meetings with ACS students to amplify their voices and ideas about the future of education at ACS and globally. I look forward to sharing their thoughts and plans with our community.
Please remember that after our October break we will again be asking all students and staff at ACS to have a COVID-19 test before returning to school. This is an important part of preventing the virus from entering the campus and complements our efforts to reduce the likelihood of transmission on campus.

La semana pasada, he compartido con ustedes los esfuerzos que hemos realizado para revitalizar nuestro objetivo de hacer que la instrucción este más centrada en los alumnos. Como parte de este esfuerzo, va a notar una pequeña diferencia en nuestra encuesta de esta semana. Como siempre, valoramos las opiniones de los padres de familia, pero también valoramos los comentarios de nuestros alumnos. Por lo tanto, va a notar que la encuesta ahora pregunta si su rol en la comunidad es de padre de familia o de estudiante. Va a ser muy provechoso aprender, comparar y contrastar los comentarios de padres y estudiantes. Además, también notará una nueva pregunta, si la instrucción durante esta semana fue virtual on en el campus. La semana pasada, muchos profesores de ACs participaron en la Conferencia virtual de Future of Eduction Now. La conferencia fue patrocinada por la Asociación para el Avance de la Educación Internacional y la Academia Occidental de Beijing. Esta conferencia involucró a cientos de participantes de todo el mundo. La conferencia puso énfasis especial en la participación de los estudiantes en proyectar el futuro de la educación. El momento de esta conferencia coincidió perfectamente con nuestro nuevo énfasis en la instrucción centrada en el estudiante. Fue muy inspirador ver a educadores y estudiantes trabajar mano a mano para mejorar la educación en todo el mundo.
Mañana voy a comenzar una serie de reuniones con los alumnos de ACS para amplificar sus voces e ideas sobre el futuro de la educación en ACS y a nivel mundial. Espero poder compartir sus opiniones y planes con nuestra comunidad.
Por favor recuerde que después de nuestras vacaciones de octubre, nuevamente les pediremos a todos los alumnos y personal de ACS que se realicen una prueba de COVID-19 antes de regresar al colegio. Es muy importante esta prueba para evitar que el virus ingrese al colegio y además complementa nuestros esfuerzos para reducir la probabilidad de transmisión del virus dentro campus.
