Dear ACS Community,
This year as a community, we have been focusing our strategic goal of becoming more student centered. While we most often think of this in terms of students' educational experience, I think it also applies to our actions related to the pandemic. We all want to keep our community healthy and safe, but we also recognize that students learn best when they have the full range of experiences available during in-person instruction. So, we want to move the school back toward in person instruction as quickly as possible. We are engaged in two preliminary steps to make that happen. The first is related to health, and the second is legal.
To consider things from a health perspective, the two charts below show recent COVID-19 cases in Bolivia and municipal La Paz respectively. While cases are currently still elevated, we are clearly no longer in the rapidly increasing phase. In addition, all evidence still points toward the omicron variant being more transmissible but less severe. As cases begin to fall, we are confident that our biosecurity protocols with a few modifications will be able to keep the risk at an acceptable level.
The second consideration is legal, and we are actively working with our legal team to make sure that our actions are not contrary to the mandates of the relevant authorities. As soon as we have more information on this front, I will let you know.
As both the Superintendent and as a parent, it is my fondest wish that we can return to campus soon.

Este año, como comunidad nos hemos centrado más en los alumnos como una meta estratégica. Si bien a menudo solemos pensar en esta como una experiencia educativa, creo que también se aplica a nuestras acciones relacionadas con la pandemia. Todos queremos mantener a nuestra comunidad sana y segura, pero también reconocemos que los alumnos aprenden mejor cuando tienen una gama completa de experiencias disponibles durante su aprendizaje en forma física. Por lo tanto, queremos que el colegio regrese a la instrucción en persona lo más pronto posible. Estamos comprometidos en realizar dos pasos preliminares para que esto suceda. El primero está relacionado con la salud y el segundo con la parte legal.
Considerando las cosas desde la perspectiva de la salud, los dos cuadros a continuación muestran los casos recientes de COVID-19 en Bolivia y en el Municipio de La Paz respectivamente. Si bien los casos actualmente siguen siendo elevados, claramente ya no estamos en una fase de rápido aumento. Además, toda la evidencia aún apunta a que la variante omicron es más transmisible, pero menos grave. A medida que los casos comiencen a disminuir, confiamos en que nuestros protocolos de bioseguridad con algunas modificaciones podrán mantener el riesgo a un nivel aceptable.
La segunda consideración es la parte legal, estamos trabajando activamente con nuestro equipo legal para asegurarnos de que nuestras acciones no sean contrarias a los mandatos de las autoridades pertinentes. Tan pronto como tengamos más información al respecto, se lo haremos saber.
Como Superintendente y como padre de familia, es mi mayor deseo que podamos regresar al campus del colegio lo más pronto posible.
