Dear ACS Community,
Parents will soon receive an invitation to join me on the 15th of September to Re-envision the ACS mission. For a not-for-profit organization like a school, our goals and purpose are set out in our mission. If it is doing its job well, it will drive decision-making throughout the organization and tell us both what to do and what not to do. Our mission, with its three themes of inspiring critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and responsible global citizens, has served ACS well. After the incredible disruptions of the pandemic, however, it is a worthy time to pause and reflect whether it is still appropriate or whether other bold new ideas should drive us. Please bring your creativity and your passion for an evening devoted to the biggest ideas that drive ACS.
There is also a lot of excitement in our community surrounding another upcoming event, namely the Gala on the 22nd of October. As this event and its associated fundraising is new to ACS, I thought I would put it in context. For many non-profit schools like our own, it is not uncommon that the aspirations of the community exceed what can be covered by tuition revenues alone. As an example, when I ask google for the top private schools in the US, it lists Phillips Andover, Philips Exeter, Harvard Westlake, Trinity School and Choate Rosemary. Tuition at these schools range from 44 thousand US dollars to 65 thousand US dollars annually. Now, you might think that with this tuition revenue, they would not need to fundraise for the school, but the exact opposite is true. Their communities want more than that tuition can provide, and their efforts are detailed prominently on their websites. The Choate Rosemary community raised 23 million USD for the school last year. Harvard Westlake's annual fund alone is 9 million USD and Phillips Andover's parent fund raised more than three and one-third million USD last year. They use these funds in a wide variety of ways supporting academics, performing arts, athletics, scholarships, wellness, and endowed scholars to name a few. Similarly, through the Gala, we hope to provide the ACS community with a playground that it can be proud of now and into the future. Please consider joining us.
On a different note, after school activities will be starting up this week. We have a wide variety of activities on offer, but we are also in talks with a number of external providers who could diversify our offerings even further in the future. We are eager to give all students as many opportunities as possible to be active and creative.

En un tema diferente, las actividades después del colegio, comenzarán esta semana.
